Encryption Protocol
First and foremost, all of your conversations are stored in end-to-end encryption. You never have to worry about your data leaking out and no one can see your messages except for you, not even the Pulse SMS Team! With Pulse SMS, you get privacy and peace of mind, right out of the box.

Privacy Protection Proof
In technical terms, we use PBKDF2 to encrypt your password and use it as a key to encrypt messages and conversations.

Technical Encryption Overview

1) When an account is created, we generate two salts. One to use with authentication and one for end-to-end encryption.

2) The one that we use with login is straight-forward and normal. We store a version of your password, hashed against the first salt, and authenticate you against this hash.

3) For the encryption, we hash your password against salt #2 and store it locally on your device (computer/tablet/phone). Having this key is the only way that you can decrypt messages. Since no one else has the password that was hashed against the second salt, no one else will be able to decrypt anything.

We share our privacy protocol publicly so our users have peace of mind knowing their password is never stored anywhere and without that password, there is no way to create the secret key used for encrypting and decrypting the content stored in the backend.

Supported Platforms
Pulse SMS has a web app that you can use. It also has native apps for tablets, MacOS, Windows, Google Chrome, Firefox, Linux, and even Android TV. Check out all of our platforms, along with screenshots, here: https://home.pulsesms.app/overview/

Messages with certain special characters like ë in it are not sent, without any notification. The é (for example) however is no problem. Very annoying when typing in for example Dutch or German. Edit: and now messages with emoticons aren't sent either. I found out this is a Unicode thing, which changes the length of the message and makes it too long l. So I understand the reason, but some kind of notification that it's too long would be nice. Instead of just not sending it.

I saw a lot of positive reviews, so I gave it a try. But during testing, not all send messages (like the ones scheduled by other apps) were received. (EDIT: and I mean of course messages scheduled to be sent to me, otherwise of course they wouldn't be received by Pulse or any other messaging app. Using common sense here -- end EDIT). The scheduled messages appear eventually in Pulse, but only after opening the old default SMS app. Also, in the proces of altering between the default SMS app, old messages get lost. Luckily I made backups beforehand so nothing's lost. Uninstalled and looking further.

Pulse is a third party SMS app, it doesn't control what messages are received or when. Android manages all carrier connections. So your common sense just isn't the way things work. Sorry the app isn't for you.

The app is very good. I've been using it for some years now. I especially like the forward and back arrows where you can position the cursor wherever you want easily. Also like that you can slide your fingers to spell out the words. And it does pretty good at knowing the correct word. When you talk into the microphone it's kind of finicky as to where it puts the phrases. Also some times it cuts off the last word from the prior sentence for some reason. Other than that everything else works good.
