About this app

Phonological skills tests are tools used in the field of psychology and education to assess the abilities of children and adults to process, manipulate, and understand speech sounds.

The Basic Phonological Skills Test (TFB) is a short digital test developed by Neuroeduca and Wumbox. With a simple and easy-to-use interface, the app tests phonological skills such as letter sound knowledge, initial and intermediate sound recognition in words. Don't wait any longer to improve the education of your students or children with our reading and writing skills assessment application!
Phonemic Awareness: This area assesses the ability to identify and manipulate the individual sounds (phonemes) within words. Tasks may include identifying the word that does not rhyme, identifying the word that begins or ends with a specific sound, or separating the sounds in a word into their individual components.

Auditory Discrimination: This area assesses the ability to distinguish between similar sounds in speech. Tasks may include identifying the word that has a different sound from the rest, identifying two words that have a different sound, or identifying if two sounds are the same or different.

Auditory memory: This area assesses the ability to remember sequences of sounds. Tasks may include repeating words or phrases from memory, or recalling sequences of sounds in the same or reverse order.

Segmentation Ability: This area assesses the ability to break words into smaller units, such as syllables or sounds. Tasks may include breaking words into syllables, identifying the syllables in a word, or separating the sounds in a word into their individual components.

Blending Ability: This area assesses the ability to blend sounds or syllables to form complete words. Tasks may include combining syllables to make words, or combining sounds to make whole words.

Taking the phonological skills test can provide useful information about an individual's strengths and weaknesses in relation to phonological skills. Furthermore, it can also help professionals to identify an individual's specific difficulties in speech processing and provide an appropriate intervention plan to address these difficulties.
